It's my honor to interview with the avant-garde designer Elena Slivnyak; a gorgeous person, a beautiful woman and a talented designe, but above all, an excellent human being. A distinguished Alumni, this past week Slivnyak came to visit the Academy of Art University and I had the privilege to interview her.
K: Hi, Elena, What's the story with your collection 2014?
E: RIght now my current collection is utilizing 3D printing which is really cool. It's my first time to work with such a technological medium. As always, I aim to stay avant-garde, pushing boundaries, and no following existing trends. My identity in the fashion world is important to me, and I intend to stay unique in my flow.
K:What's your inspiration for your next collection?
E: I've always been a serious nature lover, and a handcore animal rights activist. Geographical textures is my context this year. Ocean floor patterns and tones. Organic fabrics. Rich and Alive felling of it.
K: What's your fabrics of choice for 2014?
E: I am driven by dramtic, alien textures. Contrary to many in high fashion, I am absolutely against furs and animal products. You will never see furs in my lineup. I do have a thing for hard swen heavy fabrics for jackets. A challenging dynamic fabric is always fun to work with.
K: MOst of your previous collection was futurist inspired. Why is it? How deos it influence to you?
E: Since I was young, I have been deeply moved by things of science fiction. The creativity, the colors, the tones, and the shapes are so clinical, so clean, and defined.
K: What's your future plan?
E: I'm interested in exploring fashion production in theater maybe, or the possibilities of working as a fashion director. Oh, and I'm gonna be the Snow Queen for Halloween this coming event this year!! ;)
