I still recall my childhood memory that my dad, as journalist, he used to write the news on the papers, edit it on the computer, went to the meeting to discuss it, printed it out, and dictated the topic for newspaper over the phone. When time passed by, now he is reading news and searching information through his I-Pad and cellphone, and email and Facebook become his tool for writing news anywhere and anytime. At the time, I realized that the technology has started rewritten how journalism is broadcasted to the masses in interesting way. Though there always was many debates about technology change the way of journalism, I still think the obvious effective change in the conveyance of information through the internet is more than apparent, and growing stronger and evermore, day by day

While people are less like reading long texts nowadays, visual storytelling is become essential for journalists. From micro-blog services such as Twitter, Tumblr, video channels like YouTube, Vimeo, to full-fledged multimedia platform like Facebook, even to the reference powerhouses of Google search and Pinterest, journalists who finally have chance to craft compelling stories using videos, texts, audios, those innovate design tools to communicate with public. They can also leave comments on any interactive social media, and everyone a token of equal voice to share, comment, and critique in the moment.

As fashion journalist, sometime you would feel struggle to get news out. However, the Internet and the database will be at the core of everything that can push your work forward and Internet become the useful tool to advanced reporting.

According to Wendy K. Bendoni, the creative director of the Lifestyle prediction service Design-Options, their work is let customers know what’s the hottest trend on real time. She said“ Tracking fashion trends usually need to take over a month to process and finish. However, today we have journalists who send us up-to-the-minute footage of what’s being worn on the streets as well as retailers are showcasing. We can receive 10,000 to 15,000 images a month on Internet. Technology has created a platform for us to take the information given by our journalists and used track trend through social media.” Now they can just see the social media and know how and why the trend came into existence and report it to the public.

Social media smashes global and time zone barriers where all content is propagated to any corner, so long as there is a screen to display it. Content also aggregates utilizing keywords in the text such as hash tags to allow user to quickly search and join real time conversation online on topics or review the fashion show they are interested in.

In my opinion, the web is greatest tool in the history of the world. The technology is a brilliantly new system and change the way that journalists creating, publishing, and sharing in work field. The future of journalism with technology now in all of our hands, and I believe this atmosphere will bring the fashion journalism with collective potential in the future.
